Taking a look back...
Professional Southern Gospel artist Sammy Smith began his work in Southern Gospel music as a young teenage boy in the metro Atlanta area. At a young age he began playing bass guitar in local studios and then moved later to the traveling scene. One of the groups was the Revelations from Atlanta. After a short time with the Revelations Sammy moved to the larger professional music circuit playing and singing first tenor with such well- known groups as Calvin Runyon and the Diplomats, the Ambassadors, and the famous group of years gone by " The Plainsmen." Sammy's time with the Ambassadors from Atlanta led to his recording of the Dottie Rambo song " Don't take My Cross." This song was very succesful, as it topped the Gospel music charts across the mid-west, in the late 1970's. Years after his touring across the country he has gone back into the studio to continue his love for southern gospel as a solo artist. His most recent group activity included the True Tones and Steadfast. Sammy now does personal appearances and continues to do what he loves the most, carry on the old Southern Gospel tradition he has helped create from his childhood.
